As we finish up our delightful Thanksgiving holiday, I have become aware of several impending "to do's" on my list:
  1. I need to begin my Christmas shopping
  2. Contemplate when I will send out some sort of card with my children's picture (I'm thinking it's going to be a Valentine card this year)
  3. Decorate the house for Christmas
  4. Start planning menus for upcoming Christmas parties
  5. Come up with a menu for the last Take Off Thursday of 2009 - this upcoming Thursday December 3, 2009.

Happiness Is...

I have long believed that Chicken Pot Pie was synonymous with happiness. Even the most petulant of old buggers couldn't stay grumpy for long after consuming Chicken Pot Pie.

So imagine my surprise back in 1992 when I made Chicken Pot Pie for my boyfriend (now husband) who promptly looked at me and said "I'll be honest - I don't really like Chicken Pot Pie".

Huh? Are you kidding? Who doesn't like Chicken Pot Pie?!!!

Sounding a little like Sam in Green Eggs and Ham, I found myself begging:  "Try it! Try it! You will see!!"  And he did. And he was happy.  I was happy... and once again all was well with the world.

Here we are many years later with a house full of happy little Chicken Pot Pie lovers.

One Year Anniversary of Take Off Thursday

I'll be using loads of vine ripe tomatoes to make a delicious and flavorful Vodka Sauce served over Penne Pasta. T.O.T July 23rd Chicken Divan Crepes & Spinach Salad with Strawberries in Warm Bacon Dressing

Crepes. When was the last time you had a crepe?
While watching a cooking program featuring crepes the other day - I asked myself that very question and immediately knew the answer.


The Magic Pan.

My thoughts wondered back to memories of shopping for "back to school clothes" and then lunching at The Magic Pan.


I am sure they offered many delicious crepes - but no matter how hard I tried to broaden my ordering horizon - I could never get past the Chicken Divan Crepes. Heaven on a plate!

So - I was inspired - and according to my panel of taste testers it was quite a divine (or divan) inspiration!

Warm Weather ... Cool, Refreshing Salads

Warm weather indeed - 90's and sunny this week in Atlanta. Stock up on these delicious salads, take them to the beach or the lake, eat them in the comfort of your own home - or perhaps you know someone who just had a baby and could use something simple and yummy!

Shrimp & Grits Thursday June 4

What a spectacular weekend we just had!

School is out and it finally feels like summer. The picture you see to the right, was taken a couple of summers ago while we were in Anna Maria Island, Florida. We will be headed down there over 4th of July to hit the beach, watch the sunset and eat seafood! In honor of summer and seafood - this week's menu will be Shrimp & Grits!

Twice...not nice!

I am sorry to do this 2 weeks in a row, but much like December, May has become the month of parties! I have a couple of parties this week/end so there will be no Take Off Thursday this week.

The Freezer is stocked if you are in need of a Tetrazzini, Pot Pie or Lasagna~

**Look for an announcement on June 1st of who won the Lasagna Dinner for 2, which will be picked from all who signed up on the website.**

McLennan FEAR FACTOR

This is the time of year I get inspired to create new and interesting dishes.
I love surprising my family with things that aren’t typically served here.

As a result, we occasionally play a little food game at our house called
“McLennan Fear Factor”.

No slimy bugs or anything crazy – but sometimes a fun little game can encourage someone (adults included)
to try a food or flavors they would not ordinarily try.
Because the McLennan’s always taste test
(for adults and children alike) our Take Off Thursday menus,
I was interested to see the response for this week’s menu.
I must say – I got some raised eyebrows over this one…something new indeed~


Their hesitation didn’t last long when they began to smell the smells coming from the kitchen!
Then the moans after the first bite…

I am happy to say – this dish certainly did away with any uncertainty.
No Fear Factor needed here!

Grilled Steak Tostadas with
Southwestern Slaw & Salsa Verde

Flour tortilla flash fried,a blend of Mexican cheeses, marinated grilled flank steak
topped with a tangy slaw made from a trio of cabbage, snow peas & apples in a lime crema
and served with Salsa Verde.

It has been a busy weekend here indeed! I greatly enjoyed seeing some of my favorite people and meeting some new ones while doing the party circuit.

Hello all! Hope everyone has enjoyed the divine weather which has been hovering over Atlanta for the last few days!

I will be catering three parties this weekend which means no Take Off Thursday for April 30th. I will miss the smiling faces and socializing this Thursday...
However, I do love a party!!

Thank you to all who voted for our next Thursday menu and I am excited to say that the votes are in and we have a clear winner for Take Off Thursday May 7th and a McLennan FAVORITE!!

You certainly do not have to order all 3 dishes - this is a "pick and choose" menu - however, the combined flavors are divine:

it work unless I clone myself which Tom and the kids had no interest in.
